There are a few basics things that anyone shopping for an engagement ring should know about. You need to know these things for a couple of reasons.

The first reason is that you can bet your girlfriend knows about them. While you may never have thought much about getting married beyond finding the right woman and settling down, the odds are, your girlfriend has planned out the details since she was a little girl in elementary school.

She probably has a good idea of where she wants to get married, what her dress will look like, what appetizers will be served at the reception and yes, what her ring looks like. So you need to play some catch up.

The second reason is that if you go into a jewelry store without knowing these things, they will eat you alive. Have you ever seen what happens when you throw chum in the water? Every shark within miles picks up the scent and homes in on it. The result is a feeding frenzy and it’s not pretty to see.
