Diamond Carat

Carat measures the weight of a diamond. One carat equals 200 milligrams. Each carat is divided into 100 points. This means that a 1 carat diamond is 100 points, a 0.25 carat diamond is 25 points and a 1.01 carat diamond is 101 points. Carats are measured with a scale. If you are buying a loose diamond, make sure to see it weighed before you buy it.
Does size really matter? If you’ve read this far, then you know the answer is not necessarily. All things being equal, a bigger stone is usually better.
However, consider the following comparison:
• 1.0 carat, “Z” color, I3 included
• 0.75 carat “D” color, IF internally flawless
Which stone is the better choice? Many would argue that the 0.75 carat, “D” color, IF internally flawless is the better stone and if you were comparing prices, you would find that it would be the more expensive stone.
